VANCOUVER SHOTOKAN KARATE

New Parent's Guide

Welcome New Karate Parents!

Students and their families are the heart of JKA Vancouver.

Without commitment from all of you, we cannot maintain and grow elite karate training that nourishes the mind, body and spirit.

Please read the following guideline of expectations:

  • Check your email and reply when asked.
Important updates come by email, and I need your reply when planning events.

  • Keep noise down during class.
If you’re watching, refrain from talking or using your phone.
It’s distracting for the students & Instructor.

  • Use “Sensei Ryan” when referring to me.
This follows JKA tradition and teaches students respect.

  • Missed a class?  Make-up class.
Just contact me to arrange a time.

  • Don’t enter or leave the dojo without permission.
Ask the instructor or a sempai first – this is for safety.

  • Eat well before class and bring water.
Good nutrition is a must, and students should always have a water bottle, especially in summer.

  • To change, pause, or cancel a membership:
    Email info@vancouvermindbody.com and CC ryanlittlechilds@hotmail.com.

  • Belt testing (Gradings) is required.
Eligible students must attend unless you’ve made other arrangements with me.
    Find grading info here.

  • Tournaments matter!
    Compete, volunteer, or come cheer.

  • JKA-BC seminars help build advanced skills.
    Attend whenever you can.
    Required:

    • 3 seminars to test for 3rd kyu (brown belt)

    • 3 more before each belt test after that

  • Special events are fun and build community.
Try to join in! Info is listed in the Members Area
